Canon unveiled the Cinema EOS system at Paramount Studios to much fanfare, with Canon Inc. chairman and CEO Fujio Mitarai introducing the new line, which he says "offers potential to revolutionalize storytelling".
Canon put a prototype of the Canon EOS on the hands of several filmmakers who used the camera on their upcoming films, and the feedback was impressive.
"The end [result] was extremely filmic. For my application almost effortless to achieve, and offered tremendous consistency," said Richard Crudo ASC. Crudo used the Cinema EOS in shooting his upcoming feature film Max is Back, a story about a career criminal who has gone straight. Despite minimal lighting in the night scenes, Crudo said the camera was able to hold the highlights. "I was blown away by the amount of detail," he added. In addition, the 4k sensor performed so well, "The chip sees more than your eye can see, and the issue becomes suppressing information," he added.
Vincent LaForet, who put the Canon EOS through its paces on his upcoming short film Mobius, said "It's the 5D Mark II grown up."
