TAS: $5 coin released to commemorate Tasmania's bicentenary
Numismatists, or coin collectors, across Australia are expected to clamour to get their
hands on a $5 coin released today to mark Tasmania's bicentenary of European settlement.
The uncirculated coin, which can be used as legal tender, has been produced by the
Royal Australian Mint and retails for $14.95.
Royal Australian Mint controller Dr VIVIENNE THOM says it features a map of Tasmania,
a drawing of the Lady Nelson, which first sailed up Hobart's Derwent River 200 years
ago, and the state's endemic leatherwood blossom.
