NSW: House fire claims man and woman.

A man and a woman have died in a house fire in the southern New South Wales town of Queanbeyan.

The couple's three children have survived the blaze -- two of them being rescued by police.

Police believe the inferno may have been deliberately lit.

Emergency crews arrived at the Barracks Flat Drive home about 6 am (AEST) to find it
engulfed in flames and a young child standing outside.

A police spokesman says two police officers went in and rescued two other children.

But one of the officers became disorientated and had to be rescued by a third officer.

The spokesman says a man and a woman were found to have died in the fire.

Three police officers and the three children were taken to Queanbeyan Hospital suffering
from the effects of smoke inhalation.
